Press Release
(For immediate release)
Little Brook, NS – December 2, 2022: To help mark its fifth annual Season of Giving campaign, the Municipality of the District of Clare will once again be accepting donations for local charities, contributing to the Clare Food Bank and Les papas Noël de Clare in lieu of a holiday party and – new this year – joining private- and public-sector partners in hosting a special community lunch.
“With the rising cost of living as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, this might be a difficult time of year for quite a few of our residents,” says Yvon LeBlanc, Warden for the Municipality of Clare. “We are fortunate to be in a position to give back, so we will do what we can for our community.”
One new initiative is the Municipality’s involvement in Clare for the Holidays, a Christmas Eve meal organized by local chef Shane Robicheau (Le Ptit Robicheau / La Cuisine Robicheau) for Clare residents whose Christmas might be a little different this year. Community partners have rallied around the cause, offering food, infrastructure, funds and volunteer time.
The Municipality will continue its yearly tradition of encouraging residents and fellow community stakeholders to donate to Les papas Noël de Clare and the Clare Food Bank. Residents and local groups are invited to drop off non-perishable food items, toiletries, or new toys at the office of the Municipality of Clare or at one of its holiday events, or to organize their own holiday donation drive.
Once again, in lieu of a holiday party, staff and Council for the Municipality of Clare have chosen to donate to community charities. The Clare Food Bank and Les papas Noël de Clare will each receive a $750 donation.
Food insecurity is a growing crisis in the province, and it is affecting families who were previously unaffected by this trend. According to Statistics Canada’s Community Health Survey, working Nova Scotians make up a majority of food insecure households with 60% of them reliant on income from employment.
Residents are invited to drop off their donations at the Municipal Office (1185 Highway 1, Little Brook) Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. until Friday, December 16, 2022.
The first annual Clare for the Holidays community meal will take place on December 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clare Veterans Centre (9938 Highway 1, Saulnierville). Clare residents who wish to attend are asked to reserve before December 14 at 902-540-4354 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
