Little Brook, NS – January 10, 2025: The team at the Clare Health Centre (CHC) is starting the new year on a positive note, as primary care providers have begun moving into their new offices on the main floor of the CHC expansion and will complete the transition by January 13, 2025.

The priority was to complete the main floor section of the extension first, so that primary care providers could begin practicing at full capacity as soon as possible.

The main floor extension includes five new medical offices, each complemented by two exam rooms, additional administrative offices, a resident classroom (which can be used for medical demonstrations, webinars, a learning space with mentors, and more), an additional procedure room and a break room for the growing staff.

The project will add 8,141 sq. ft. to the CHC (4,563 sq. ft. on the main floor and 3,578 sq. ft. on the basement level), bringing the total building size to 22,119 sq. ft. The expansion project amounts to approximately $7.2 million. Nova Scotia Health provides a monthly operating grant of roughly $64,000 to the Municipality of Clare to help cover costs of the CHC.

“We are very pleased to see this milestone of the expansion project underway. The Municipality of Clare recognizes the challenges our healthcare system faces, and we're proud to continue taking concrete, tangible steps to overcome them. Soon, all Clare residents will have access to a family doctor, and I think that's a remarkable achievement." (Yvon LeBlanc, Warden – Municipality of Clare).

As a result of this expansion project, the CHC will now be able to accommodate a total of twelve (12) physicians, a nurse practitioner, and a family practice nurse. At this time, the Nova Scotia Health Need a Family Practice Registry indicates that there are 290 patients in Clare waiting to be assigned a family physician – if you are among this number, rest assured that you will soon be assigned to a physician. We want to remind people that if they don't have a family doctor, you need to add your name to the Need a Family Practice Registry. Adding your name to the registry is easy and can be done on the website linked above or by calling 811.

Moreover, the number of patients assigned to a primary care provider in recent months has eased the demand for on-call services. We anticipate that demand for on-call services will continue to ease even further as physicians will now be able to work at full capacity. In addition, the second procedure room will enable CHC staff to offer more medical procedures in a timely manner.

Finally, the basement extension (which is still under construction) will add space for a physiotherapy suite and additional offices for various healthcare providers, which will increase the variety of services offered at the Clare Health Centre.

The Clare Health Centre expansion project is scheduled for completion by March 2025.
